The
Council has established an Appropriate Technology Research,
Development & Promotion Centre [ATC] at Govt. Polytechnic,
Sundernagar in 1995 for the development and propagation
of appropriate technologies in the State. |
ATC
has propagated a number of technologies for hilly areas
namely water mills (gharats), hydrams, ferro cement, low
cost housing, earth quake resistant & solar passive
housing etc in the State. The Centre has done commendable
work in popularising greenhouses construction in Himachal
Pradesh. So far more than 400 greenhouses have been installed
by the Centre in the farmer fields in the State. The Centre
has created facilities for training and capacity building
of manpower for propagation of the technologies in remote
areas of the State. Farmers use these greenhouses for growing
nursery and vegetables during winters. |

| Use of
Bio-fertilizer |
|
Use
of Bio-fertilizer Prolonged use of synthetic nutrients cause
irreparable damage to the soil health. Council initiated
training programmes to popularise the use of bio-fertlizers
among the farmers of the state.
Use
of Pine-needles and Lantana biomass as a Fuel
Lantana
an obnoxious weed is growing abundantly in the state and
pine-forests are available in bulk in many districts which
cause forest fire during dry and summer season. Council
is trying to propagate the integrated use of the bio-mass
by converting into briquettes which are used as fuel in
special designed stoves/Chullahs |
