The Centre was opened with
the following objectives
1. Introduce patent information as a vital
input in the process of promotion of R&D programmes.
2. Provide patenting facilities to scientists and technologists
in the country for Indian and foreign patents on a sus
tained basis
3. Keep a watch on developments in the area of IPR and make
important issues known to policy makers, scientists, industry
etc.
4. Create awareness and understanding relating to patents
and challenges and opportunities in this area including
arranging workshops, seminars, conferences etc.
5. Register Geographical Indications of Himachal Pradesh.
The HPPIC is the nodal agency for identifying
and filing the applications of Geographical Indications
of Himachal Pradesh with the Registrar of Geographical Indications
at Chennai. The Centre provides patent search facilities
for Indian, U.S and European patents, databases on Indian
patent applications filed and applications accepted which
are open for opposition, are now available
